Quote of the Week: "Never doubt that a small
group of thoughtfully committed citizens can
change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that
ever has." ~
Margaret Mead
Today we celebrated Earth Day by wearing
Go Green T-shirts. Thank you to The Science
Department and the Evergreen Club who organized
all of the Earth Week Activities. The proceeds
from the sale of the t-shirts and SF reusable
bags will be given to the planned "green
roof" on the soon-to-be-built Science Suite and
Learning Resource Center. The inspiration for this
effort was our beloved Mrs. Mary Feltes, the St.
Francis Evergreen Club moderator and Science
Department Chairperson. It is our desire to
keep her environmentally-conscious work
alive.
Junior, Lisa Neary, has been selected by the
Peacebuilders Initiative at The Bernardin Center
at Catholic Theological Union to be a Peacebuilder
for the 2010-2011 school year. Lisa will
participate in a summer training and develop a
peace project here at St. Francis.
Congratulations, Lisa! Well
deserved!
Please join us at the many activities planned
for this coming week. The One Acts are Friday at
7:00pm and Saturday at 3:00pm & 7:00pm. The
Choral Concert is Sunday at 3:00pm. The Band
Concert is Wednesday at 7:00pm. The All School
Liturgy - Transition Mass is next Thursday morning
and Greg Gumbel will speak at St. Francis on
Thursday night at 7:00pm in
CAC.

Evergreen
Club participation in Envirothon
Northeastern Illinois Envirothon
Competition St. Francis earns 1st
place
On Friday, April 16,
St. Francis participated in the
Northeastern Illinois Envirothon competition held
at the Mayslake Peabody Estate. At the
Envirothon competition, various schools from
neighboring districts and counties engaged in a
friendly competition regarding current issues
relating to our environment. The St. Francis
team consisted of Claire Stark, Sarah Wagner,
Michael and Billy Southwell, and Kit
McDonnell. The team had been preparing
with early morning meetings and completing
research since this January. The competition
included content regarding soils, water, forestry,
and wildlife completing a variety of tasks and
tests on these subjects. They also prepared a
presentation on how to help a town with its own
water management process, providing ways to reduce
contamination, overall cost, and daily use of
water. This was the first time St. Francis
participated in the Envirothon competition and it
was a success. St. Francis earned 1st
place for the Kane-DuPage County
Region. The Envirothon Team was lead by
Science Teacher, Sarah
Mantooth. Congratulations!

Hope
for Haiti - Still Time to Help! We
are still approximately $1,000 short of our
goal of $17,000. If you were unable to attend
the festival, and want to support the people of
Haiti, we would be grateful. M & M tubes
are still available through the Pastoral
Office: enjoy the M & M's, return the
tube with quarters (by May 1) and
help feed 82 children in need!

year. Remember your volunteer hours can be
calculated and entered as a gift-in-kind which
