Welcome Back!
Curriculum Night begins
tonight at 7:00 pm in the Spyglass Gymnasium.
Tomorrow is our Blue/White Night beginning at 5:30
(see schedule at right) and our Back-To-School
Dance from 7:30 - 9:45. Please check the
Student-Parent Handbook for the school's Dance
Policy.
Parking for the Blue & White
Scrimmage and the Back to School Dance will be in
both the east and west lots.
However, passage between the two lots (by the
tennis courts) will be closed at 5:00 pm.
Therefore, the 'Do Not Enter' sign in front of the
east lot will be suspended starting at 5:00 pm,
thus allowing traffic from Roosevelt Rd. to turn
directly into the east lot. Thank you in
advance and remember: SLOW driving is SAFE
driving. Congratulations
to Ralph Remus on being named the Illinois
Coaches Association's Sectional Softball Coach of
the Year for 2009.
This year for your convenience, the Sodexho
Food service will post a weekly menu on our
website. This link can be found within the
Student Services tab and as a quick link
found on the right side of this page.
The Principal's eNews is sent every Thursday
to those who have registered. If you have friends
who haven't registered yet, please encourage them
to do so now. In addition, visit our website for
current events and information.
Blessings
to all as we begin the 2009-2010 school
year!

Notes
from the Nurse's Office
Dear Parent(s),
As you may know, flu whether it is H1N1 or
seasonal can easily spread from person to person.
Therefore, we are taking steps to reduce the
spread of flu here at St. Francis. We want to keep
the school open and functioning in a normal manner
during this flu season. But, we need your help to
do this.
We are working closely with the
Dupage County Health Department to monitor flu
conditions and make decisions about the best steps
to take concerning schools. We will keep you
updated with new information as it becomes
available.
For now we are doing everything
we can to keep our school functioning as usual.
Here are a few things you can do to help.
- Teach your children to wash their hands
often with soap and water or an alcohol-based
hand rub. You can set a good example by doing
this yourself.
- Teach your children proper respiratory
etiquette by coughing or sneezing in a tissue or
by covering up their coughs or sneezes using the
elbow, arm or sleeve instead of the hand when a
tissue is unavailable.
Link to light hearted video on the
proper technique.
- Teach your children not to share personal
items like drinks, food or unwashed utensils.
- Know the signs and symptoms of the flu.
Symptoms of the flu include fever (100 degrees
Fahrenheit, 37.8 degrees Celsius or greater),
cough, sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, body
aches, headache, and feeling very tired. Some
people may also vomit or have diarrhea.
- Keep sick children at home for at least 24
hours after they no longer have fever or do not
have signs of fever, without using
fever-reducing drugs. (CDC guidance as of
August 7th) Keeping children with a fever at
home will reduce the number of people who may
get infected.
- Do not send children to school if they are
sick. Any students who are determined to be sick
while at school will be sent home.

Short
Term Freshman Group offered again during first
semester-Sign Up Going on
Now
As in previous years, a short term freshman
group will be offered during the first semester.
Starting at a new school can be a difficult time
in a young person's life. The excitement of
"starting new" is mixed with the sadness of
leaving familiar territory. Students may be
wondering: "What will it be like? Will
I be accepted? Will I be successful? What
study skills & test taking skills do I
need". Fears of change can be overwhelming
for some young people. However, with
encouragement, this transition can be a positive
new start.
For all of the above reasons, the
Guidance & Counseling Department will again
offer the optional six-week group for
freshman. This group will meet once a week
during rotating class periods. The group,
run by counselors Mrs. Rupp and Ms. Sullivan, will
offer freshmen the opportunity to meet new people,
to learn more about St. Francis and ask questions
in a small, non-threatening environment. The
second component to the freshman group will be to
help students work on study skills and test taking
techniques. Group size is limited and
registration is required. The freshman group
will start at the end of August.
Contact Info: If you would like more
information on this group or on any of the other
support groups available at St. Francis, contact
Mrs. Rupp at ext 104 or email at arupp@sfhsnet.org.
Sign-Up Deadline is Aug.
29th. |
