Congratulations to Matt DeAngelo and Bethany
Nichols on their selection as finalists and
members of the Daily Herald All Area
Leadership Team.
They will be featured in a group shot on
the front page of the Daily Herald on January 30,
2009, and featured in a special edition of the
Neighbor section on that
day.
Congratulations also to Ms. Fairhead's Honors
English 1 students Annemarie Coman, Megan
Griffith, Katie Hagerty, and Mary Kate Olofson
whose children's picture book A Caterpillar's
Story was chosen as a finalist in the Nationwide
Learning National Book Challenge. The
English Department and National Honor Society
teamed up to write and publish children's picture
books to be distributed through various St.
Francis service opportunities organized by Mrs.
Mercadante. Winners, announced the first
week of May, will receive a $100 higher
education cash scholarship.

Attention Future

The Entrance Exam for the incoming Class of
2013 will be given at St. Francis on Saturday,
January 10, 2009. Applications can be found
on the admissions page of our
website. The completed registration form, $35
testing fee and 7th grade report cards are due by
Monday, January 5.

Taking Chances
for St. Francis
Casino Night/Auction update
They're in the mail! Your invitation to
Taking Chances for St. Francis. An RSVP by
1/21/08 will give you a chance to win a stay at
the Westin. Call your friends and join the
fun. It is not too late to donate an
item, advertise your business or contact your
parish rep to participate in a group
donation. Please consider donating a bottle
of wine or a restaurant gift certificate for the
Wine & Dine chance table. For additional

The donation deadline is Friday, January
16th. The 2nd Early Bird Cash Raffle

Daddy Daughter
Dance
Mark your calendars, St. Francis fathers and
daughters! The Daddy Daughter Dance will
take place Saturday, January 31st in the Slant
Dome from 7:30-10:00 pm. Tickets may be
purchased during the week of January 12-16, so be
sure to bring your check for $25 to the
bookstore during lunch

Save the Date for the
Mother/Son Brunch!
A reminder to all mothers and sons of SFHS
that the Sophomore Class invites everyone to the
annual Mother-Son Brunch and Mass, which will be
held at the Holiday Inn Select at Naperville &
Diehl Roads on Sunday, February 1st. The
Mass begins at 10:00am followed by brunch in
the main ballroom. Please save the date and
join us for this special occasion. Invitations
will go out in the beginning of
January. |

Committee names Bethany
Nichols
Congratulation
to Bethany Nichols who was recently announced by
the DuPage County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Celebration Committee as one of 10 students from
DuPage County High Schools to earn a scholarship
in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr. These college bound high
school seniors are those who best exemplify the
characteristics of Dr. King: 1) Leadership
as demonstrated by their involvement in
extracurricular activities involving social
justice. 2) Compassion and a commitment to
equality as demonstrated by their attitudes in the
classroom and at school towards others. 3)
Courage, as demonstrated by their willingness to
do the right thing even when that is not
popular. 4) Academic Integrity as
demonstrated by a commitment to learning. 5)
Respect for Diversity as demonstrated by
relationships reflecting sensitivity to racial,
cultural, ethnic and gender
