Auschwitz
Lullaby
SFHS is sponsoring a Holocaust Memorial
discussion at 5:00PM on Saturday Nov 7 in between
the afternoon matinee and the evening performance.
Our speaker comes to us from the Illinois
Holocaust Museum and he is Joseph Koek, one of the
hidden children. His parents died at Auschwitz and
he was hidden in schools all throughout Europe
until the liberation. This memorial is open to the
public. There will be a Q and A with Mr. Koek at
the end of his talk, followed by some light
refreshments.

who worked to make it a success. We collected 60
units of blood.
H1N1 Update
The Dupage County Health Department now has
the H1N1 flu "shot". They are scheduling
appointments for those who are in the priority
groups. For an appointment call the 24/7 line at
866-311-1123. Link to
flyer
- 48 states, including Illinois, are now
reporting widespread flu activity. Doctor visits
for influenzA-Kike illness (ILI) has increased
steeply since the third week of October and
overall, are much higher than what is expected
for this time of the year. ILI activity now is
higher than what is seen during the peak of many
regular flu seasons.
- Almost all of the influenza viruses
identified so far are 2009 H1N1 influenza A
viruses. These viruses remain similar to the
virus chosen for the 2009 H1N1 vaccine, and
remain susceptible to two antiviral drugs.
- If your student is out with ILI they may
return to school as long as they have been fever
free for 24 hours without the aid of fever
reducing medications such as acetaminophen
(Tylenol), or ibuprofen (Advil or
Motrin).

St.
Francis Memorial Mass
The St. Francis
High School Alumni Association would like to
cordially invite you to the Memorial Mass on
Sunday, November 8th to specifically remember and
pray for members of the SFHS community who have
gone to their eternal rest in Christ. The Mass is
in the month of November because it is considered
a time of remembrance in the Catholic Church. As
is our tradition, we will pray for all our
deceased alumni and faculty whose lives are
engrained in our memories.
Fr. Jim Murphy
will be our celebrant for our liturgy that will
take place in the Slant Dome (old gym) at 10:30
a.m. This Mass will be followed by a time to renew
acquaintances and enjoy refreshments together. Fr.
Jim Murphy grew up in Winfield and his family
members were long time St. John the Baptist
parishioners.
IMPORTANT: Please enter the
west entrance and drive around the school to the
east side. If you need a handicap accessible
entrance, park near door #8. This entrance has an
indoor ramp that will bring you down to the Slant
Dome level. You may also enter the Slant Dome
directly through door #'s 5 & 6.
This
is really a great community gathering and
strengthening mass, it exemplifies all that St.
Francis High School is. I hope you can join
us.
Sincerely,
Valerie A.

Mix
it Up at Lunch - November 10th
On November 10th we will MIX IT UP at
LUNCH
What is Mix It UP at
Lunch?
On November 10th, we will
encourage our students to join hundreds of
thousands of students around the country and stir
things up in the school cafeteria. The event
encourages students to identify, challenge &
cross the social boundaries that divide schools
& communities.
As at many schools, the cafeteria at
lunchtime is a social map of our whole school. A
map criss-crossed with boundaries. These
boundaries can create divisions and
misunderstanding in schools and can lead to
bullying, harassment and violence. But by working
to cross the barriers students can help create an
environment that is characterized by less conflict
and instead by more tolerance.
Please encourage your
children to see what happens if they mix
it up at lunch and swap seats in the cafeteria,
step out of their comfort zone and sit somewhere
new, with someone
new. |
