St. Francis High School Open House
for potential students

Junior high students and their families are invited to experience St. Francis High School on Sunday, October 19 at 11am.  After a program in the Kuhn Cultural Arts Center, attendees can sample classroom demonstrations and tour the facilities. Teachers, coaches, administrators, school parents and students will be on hand to share their high school insights.

A second Open House event is scheduled for Wednesday, November 19. The evening program will begin at 6:00 pm.
The Secret Life of Bees

Freshman honors English classes are currently reading Sue Monk Kidd's The Secret Life of Bees. This award-winning novel is now a major motion picture starring Queen Latifah and Dakota Fanning. Freshman honors English students are being asked to go to the movie after reading the novel. Please consider having your student see the movie on one of the half days of November 5th or 6th.
Time Out For Reading Reminder

The next Time Out for Reading takes place on Thursday, October 23rd. The selection for this month's discussion is The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer. The novel is a riveting sci-fi thriller about a young clone struggling for acceptance in his tumultuous, yet sheltered world.  Interested students should sign up in the library. Refreshments will be served!
Blood Drive

Our Annual Blood Drive will take place on Tuesday, October 28. Students 16 and older are eligible to donate. Permission forms will be distributed to students next week.

"Jeepers Creepers"- St. Francis is Collecting
Old Peepers!

Do you have any unused eyeglasses or sunglasses around the house? If so, donate your old eyeglasses and sunglasses to a good cause. This year St.Francis High School will again collect old glasses for "Sight Night". Volunteers will then repair and classify the collected eyeglasses by prescription and hand deliver them to people in developing countries who need eyeglasses but cannot afford them.

Also, we are again inviting St. Francis students to collect old eyeglasses in their neighborhoods on Halloween while they are "trick-or-treating". Please talk with your child about this opportunity to collect more than just candy this Halloween. Free Trick-or Treat collection kits and a drop-off box for old glasses will be available in the Guidance & Counseling Department. For more info, please contact Mrs. Rupp at extension 104. Please drop off any eyeglasses by the end of October.
