Starting Monday, September 29 the
St. Francis athletic programs will be starting a
"Shoe Drive" in conjunction with an organization
called Samaritan's Feet (www.samaritansfeet.org). The organization provides
athletic shoes to children in impoverished
countries who otherwise do not have shoes to
wear. The donations will be collected each
day in the cafeteria for two weeks. The
students should bring in new shoes to the
drop off location in the cafeteria.(Suggestion:
boys' sizes 3-7 because they can be worn by either
boys or girls).
In an effort to bring awareness
to this cause and the Samaritan's Feet
Ministry several St. Francis coaches
will be coaching their athletic events without
shoes. The culminating event for this drive
will be the Senior Night football game against St.
Edward's when Coach Jesse Pierce of the varsity
football team will coach the game
barefoot.

From the Wellness
Office With the flu
season upon us it is important that we work
together and take precautions to keep our students
and faculty healthy. By keeping your student
healthy the whole St. Francis community benefits.
Children and teenagers are two to three times more
likely to get sick with the flu. Click here for
information from the CDC on signs and symptoms,
how the flu spreads and the best protection from
the flu. http://www.cdc.gov/flu/symptoms.htm

| From the Dean's
Office
We are six weeks into the new school
year, and one progress report down containing our
new Conduct Grade. If there are any
questions regarding the Conduct Grade, please do
not hesitate to call. Reminder
1 If your son had a "back to school" haircut it
is time to get it cut once again (hair is to be
off the collar, above the bottom earlobe and
not covering the eyes). Reminder
2 MODESTY--1 : freedom from conceit or vanity
2 : propriety in dress, speech, or
conduct.
With that said, when your daughter wears
a skirt to school, it needs to be no shorter
than two inches above the knee, longer is always
appreciated. If your daughter receives a
demerit for skirt length, (check your e-mail),
upon the third demerit, she loses the privilege to
wear the skirt for a determined set of
time. |

Library Celebrates Banned
Book Week
The week of September 27 through October 4,
2007, marks the 27th anniversary of Banned Books
Week, the American Library Association's annual
celebration of the freedom to read.In honor of
this the St. Francis Library will be displaying 35
of the top 100 banned or challenged books.
These titles include such classics as the Bible,
To Kill a Mockingbird, The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn and the Catcher in the Rye.
Everyone is encouraged during this week to take
the time to reflect that the First Amendment,
intellectual freedom, and the freedom to read
should not be taken for granted.
