Quote of the Week: Homecoming means coming
home to what is in your heart. ~ Author Unknown
There is a lot of excitement in
anticipation of this weekend's homecoming
events. A special "thank you" to everyone
involved with the planning and participation in
our Homecoming, 2009 celebration. Whether you
are golfing in the Alumni Golf Classic, attending
the Football Game, stopping by the Homecoming
Social at Pal Joey's or preparing your students
for the dance . . . the St. Francis Staff wish
everyone a fun-filled and safe Homecoming weekend.
Raeann
Huhn - Principal
Note
from the Dean:
Remember students going to the
dance must arrive at school no later
than 8:20am on Friday and they must attend all
classes. If they have a doctor's appointment they
may only miss 90 minutes and must
provide a doctor's
note.
Students must arrive at the
dance on Saturday between 7:30pm and 8:00pm with
their current school ID. They are not permitted to
leave the dance prior to
9:30pm. |

Notes
from the Nurse
H1N1
UPDATEKeeping our students
healthy is the responsibility of all. The
following include some of what we are doing
here at school to try and prevent the spread of
the flu:
- In an effort to reach every student in the
building, I addressed each Religion, PE, Intro
to Computers and Health class about the H1N1
virus, how germs spread, basic health hygiene
practices, signs and symptoms of flu, and when
to stay home. We also talked about the
vaccine.
- We installed more hand sanitizers throughout
the school.
- We designed a website with links to updates
from the CDC and other important information (click here to view our H1N1
site).
- We changed our attendance line message
requesting that parents inform us about their
student's symptoms.
- I report our absences and number of ILI
(influenza like illness) daily to the Dupage
County Health Department so that flu conditions
can be monitored here and throughout the county.
- We continue with frequent washing of high
touch areas around the school.
Noteworthy are three things:
- Twenty one states are reporting widespread
flu activity which includes Illinois. Any
reports of widespread flu activity in September
are considered very unusual.
http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/updates/us/
- There is updated information from the IDPH
and the Governor about the delivery process of
the vaccine to the Chicago suburbs.
http://www.idph.state.il.us/h1n1_flu/H1N1_Vaccine_ Delivery_Process.pdf
- I encourage you to have your student
vaccinated. Please talk to your healthcare
provider about the vaccine. The CDC has an
updated Q and A about the vaccine.

Parents'
Organization
Hello to ALL PARENTS!
Parents, alumni and friends of
St. Francis are ALL invited to
attend the Homecoming Social / All School Reunion
at Pal Joey's after the Homecoming Football Game
this Friday, September 25th, starting at 9:00 p.m.
through 1:00 a.m. The cost is $25.00 per
person and you may pay at the door. This
includes unlimited food and drink. The
entertainment for the evening will be our very own
Tom Malouf and his band, "Chunky
Monkey". This is a wonderful way for us as
parents to get together to celebrate as a school
community, as well as make new friends and catch
up with old ones. So please plan on
attending to what I am sure will be a memorable
evening.
On a separate note, I hope everyone had a
chance to see this year's directory. How
exciting to have access to everyone's email
addresses. This makes communication so much
simpler for everyone. With that being said, I
would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to
Denise Bacon for organizing the
ordering and distribution of the directories and
to Jeff Gerdeman for his countless hours of
technological expertise which made all of it
possible this year!
Thank you,
Crystal
Baker P.O.

Library
Card Sign-up Month 2009
Get the Smartest Card @ your
library® September is Library Card
Sign-up Month, and the St. Francis Library wants
to make sure that all students and staff have the
smartest card of all - a public library
card.
Studies show that students who
use the library perform better in school and are
more likely to continue to use the library as a
source of lifetime learning.
Any student or staff member who
shows Mrs. Rath his or her public library during
the week of September 28th will receive a reward.
Getting a library card is
easy. All you have to do is go to your public
library, with a parent if you're under 18, and you
can walk out with your new public library card or
check out your library online on the St. Francis
Library website.
Remember a library card has
always been the most important school supply of
all. Students can go to the library to get
homework help and check out books, but you can
also play games, check out music, books and DVDs
and use the Internet. There's a lot happening at
your local public library and the best part is
that it's all free with a library card.
Observed since 1987, Library Card
Sign-up Month is a time when the American Library
Association (ALA) and libraries across the country
remind parents that a library card is the most
important school supply of
all.
For more information on how to
sign up for a library card, visit your local
public library. |
