Note
from the Principal
IMPORTANT
PARENT/STUDENT PORTAL INFORMATION AND INITIAL LOGON INSTRUCTIONS
As communicated
previously, STI InformationNOW Parent and Student Portal usernames
and passwords were reset for the new school year. Returning
students received their student portal logon information in homeroom
on August 26th and incoming freshmen were walked through the student
portal logon process in homeroom last week. Meanwhile,
all Parent/Guardian usernames and passwords were reset last
Friday and this parent portal information was mailed on
Wednesday, September 7th.
All parents and
students were assigned a system generated username (which may
include a first initial, last name, and numbers) and a temporary
password of Spartans2011 (please note the capital "S" in
Spartans). Once you successfully logon for the first time, the system
will immediately require that you change this
temporary password. Simply re-type Spartans2011 as the 'Old
Password' and type your 'New' password (including a 2nd time to
confirm). Your new password must comply with the system's security
requirements:
- password
must be at least 8 characters in length
- password
must include both upper and lower case letters
- password
must include both letters and numbers
Please make
note of both your username and what you changed the password to, and
save this information for future reference.
Other item of
note: we highly recommend you attempt your initial logon process from
a "regular" computer. STI InformationNOW has had issues in
the past with both iPads and mobile devices. While the portal should
work on both of these types of devices, we simply recommended
that you do not use them for the initial logon process.
If you have any
difficulties with the portal logon process, or do not receive the
mailer, please email portalhelp@sfhsnet.org

Notes from the Nurse
Seasonal allergies, also known as hay fever or
seasonal allergic rhinitis, affects as estimated 40% of children in
the US and leads to more than 2 million missed school days annually.
Allergies begin when trees, flowering plants, grasses and weeds
release pollen. Molds which grow in soil, vegetation and rotting wood
can cause allergic symptoms when they become airborne.
Symptoms include sneezing, runny nose, congestion, cough, sinus
pressure, watery eyes, as well as itchy eyes, nose and throat. These
are the primary symptoms. Additionally people with severe allergies
can experience other systemic complaints such as fatigue,
irritability, and inability to think clearly. For those with asthma
these allergens can trigger typical asthma symptoms such as shortness
of breath, wheezing and cough.
Is it a cold or is it allergies? Most colds go away after 7-10 days,
while allergy symptoms can last for weeks or months. If there is low
grade fever and achy feeling it is probably a cold. Allergies usually
produce a thin watery, clear nasal discharge while a cold produces a
thick yellow nasal discharge. Symptoms range from minor temporary
inconveniences to severe symptoms which affect day-to-day activities.
If your student has fall allergies it's time to have those OTC medications
ready or prescriptions filled. Click here to read about treatment
options.
