E-NEWSLETTERS - PARENTS

June 2008
IN THIS ISSUE

President's Letter

It’s hard to believe that one more school year is over, but before we say goodbye for the summer there are just a few things I would like to say.

KUDOS to our choir members, band members, Nina Schroeder and Bob Mamminga for putting together such a wonderful Spring Concert – it was totally amazing. Also, congratulations to all our Spring Athletes and the Math Team on their tremendous achievements. Wishing much continued success to all of those advancing in the playoffs. We certainly have outstanding, talented SPARTANS!

Just a few reminders:

The SAA Golf Outing is Monday, June 16th. Please come out and support the
St. Francis community. For further information, contact Paul Linden at
668-5800 X112.

Mark your calendar for the 2nd Annual “Taking Chances for St. Francis Casino Night/Auction” to be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Westin Hotel in Lombard . We are in need of a chair person and/or couple to oversee this event next year. If you have any interest or know of someone that might, please give me a call. The “leg work” is completed so don’t be afraid to come forward.

As most of you are aware, Sister Sheila will be leaving us in a few short weeks. On behalf of the Parents Organization, I would like to say THANK YOU and GOOD BYE
to Sister who has contributed so much to St. Francis over the past 4 years. She will surely be missed! May God continue to bless and watch over her. Also, please
keep the Presidential search committee in your prayers as they work on finding
her replacement. If you plan to attend Sister Sheila's Farewell Reception, please contact Debbie Quirk at 630-668-5800 ext. 143 or dquirk@sfhsnet.org.

It has been an extremely eventful and successful year for the St. Francis Community and the Parents’ Organization. I would like to say thank you to each and every one of you who have volunteered your time, treasure and/or talent to make St. Francis the special place that it is. Being part of such a great community has made my job as President of the Parents’ Organization an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

We will be sending important information with respect to the Parents' Organization for the 2008-2009 school year over the summer, please look for this info sometime in July. I encourage all of you to get involved!

I pray that everyone has a relaxing, safe and enjoyable summer!

Sincerely,
Sue Ferraro, PO President

Surgery or Illness during the Summer: If your student has any health issues or concerns over the summer that may impact him or her in the fall and you would like to discuss this, I can be reached at dhoscheit@sfhsnet.org. Please contact me over the summer. The first day of school is typically busy and is a difficult time to address your concerns or requests.

Physical Forms: All incoming freshman physicals are due at the school no later than August 1st. This includes a complete record of immunizations. If your child will be requiring any medication at school, the office visit is a good time to have the physician complete the Authorization for Administration of Medication form which you can downloaded from the website.

Also, the IHSA requires that athletes have a sport physical annually. Your student will not be able to tryout for a sport unless he\she has a current sport physical on file.

Authorization for Administration of Medication | Student Health and Emergency Form
Physical Form | Sport's Physical Form

Student Health and Emergency Form: This form will be included in a summer mailing and is required for EVERY student. If the student is participating in a fall sport it must be mailed or dropped off at the school by Aug 1st, otherwise if the student is not participating in a fall sport it will be collected at registration.

Summer travel: If your student is traveling abroad this summer the Centers for Disease Control (www.cdc.gov) has a Travelers’ Health link that can be accessed from their homepage. There you can find helpful information and tips on health related issues including suggested vaccinations for your destination.

In addition, Central Dupage Hospital has a Travel Medicine clinic (www.cdh.org). They can help you minimize the risk of illness during and after foreign travel.

Meningitis Vaccination:

Senior students preparing for college should strongly consider the meningitis vaccine. College students living in dormitories are at higher risk than the general population of similar age to contracting meningitis.

Please email me with any questions or concerns.

Lastly, make a copy of all health exams for your records at home!

Have a safe and relaxing summer.
