PHYSICAL EDUCATION - CURRICULUM | FACULTY 

The Physical Education Department requires five semesters of physical education classes. This requirement is met by one semester of physical education each year. Health is a one-semester course required during the sophomore year. This required curriculum enhances the students' skills and knowledge in physical, mental, and social activities with an emphasis on fitness. It also enriches their background and develops their appreciation for the social and physical aspects of a variety of activities in their environment. Through both health and physical education classes, students develop lifetime activities to maintain a physically fit and emotionally healthy lifestyle.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION I
Credit: .5 unit
Eligible Grade Level: 9
Prerequisite: None
This beginning class emphasizes the basic elements and concepts of physical fitness including an individual fitness plan. Team and duo activities are included to begin development of lifelong activities.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION II
Credit: .5 unit
Eligible Grade Level: 10
Prerequisite: P.E. I
This class teaches students basic skills, strategies, and rules involved with individual, dual and team sports and physical fitness. Students are provided with opportunities to develop physical, fitness, nutritional, and social skills.

HEALTH
Credit: .5 unit
Eligible Grade Level: 10
Prerequisite: None
This class is designed to meet the immediate health needs of the students. The class is designed to provide the students with opportunities to develop a more positive attitude about their own person, and solve problems and make decisions in situations they encounter throughout life. This course is taught with a major emphasis placed on health promotion and wellness.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION III PHYSICAL EDUCATION IV
Credit: .5 unit

Eligible Grade Level: 11
Eligible Grade Level: 12
Prerequisite: P.E. II
Prerequisite: P.E. III
These are one semester courses that provide opportunities for students to learn and participate in individual and team sport activities and rhythms. Lessons in advanced fitness and conditioning concepts are explored. Emphasis in these courses is placed on skill development strategies and team-work in all activities. Opportunities for leadership and competition are significant parts of these classes as well as the development of lifelong activities.
